FAQs
Ques. Can I do masters in Germany in English without knowing German?
Ans. Yes. None of the 10 programs above asks for German at admission. Only HU Berlin's taxation courses are taught in German. Daily life is different, though. Landlords, the residence office and health insurers often write in German. Indian students who start A1 classes before departure often reach B1 by their final semester. B1 German also shortens the Blue Card route to permanent residence from 27 months to 21 months.
Ques. Is masters in Germany in English free for Indian students?
Ans. Tuition can be free, but the first year never is. At RWTH Aachen, the first-year cash outlay is €12,729.38 (INR 13.79 Lakhs). That covers the €11,904 (INR 12.89 Lakhs) blocked account, two semester fees of €375.19 (INR 40,641) and the €75 (INR 8,124) visa fee. RWTH takes applications through its own portal, so there is no uni-assist fee. At TUM, the same items plus tuition and a uni-assist VPD reach €24,248 (INR 26.27 Lakhs). Add the INR 18,000 APS fee and your flight to either figure.
Ques. Is GRE required for masters in Germany in English?
Ans. Only at three of the 10 universities here. TUM, RWTH and KIT ask Indian graduates for the GRE. TUM and KIT accept a GATE score instead. GRE scores stay valid for 5 years. So one sitting can cover both an April 2027 and an October 2027 application. If you already hold a strong GATE score, apply to TUM and KIT without booking the GRE.
Ques. My B.Tech was taught in English. Do I still need IELTS or TOEFL?
Ans. It depends on the university. Bonn does not accept an English-medium Indian bachelor's as proof. So Bonn applicants need IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 95. TUM accepts a bachelor's thesis written in English. RWTH Data Science accepts an English thesis or seminar paper. LMU accepts a B2 certificate or a degree taught in English. Read each program's language page before you book a test.
Ques. I studied at a Tier-2 or Tier-3 city college, not an IIT or NIT. Will German universities reject my degree?
Ans. No. German universities judge the degree, not the brand. They check that your institution holds H+ status in the anabin database. Then they compare your grades and modules with the program's entry rules. The APS certificate verifies your documents wherever you studied. A strong GATE or GRE score and relevant electives matter more than the college name. Programs with a written test, such as LMU's, give every applicant the same chance.
Ques. Will a German master's taught in English be recognized if I return to India?
Ans. Yes. All 10 universities here are state-recognized public universities. Private employers in India hire on the degree and the skills it shows. For government jobs or a PhD in India, you may need an equivalence certificate. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) issues it for degrees from recognized foreign institutions. A four-semester German master's also matches the length of a two-year Indian postgraduate degree.
