Course Curriculum

8

  • The course Curriculum is Medium if one has paid good attention in class, they can easily top, though some fail as well due to lack of focus, but overall the teachers are supportive and help a lot the class schedule depends on th semester and for different students, it is typically 3 days a week with 2-3 classes max the major plus point about University is the small class sizes, around 24-35 class sizes only and 40-50 percent Indian and the rest from different nations in some classes, only 1-2 indians are seen.

Admission Experience

  • I only applied to one college that Is the University of the Fraser valley and after receiving my file, I was offered a seat easily due to my Duolingo, as I had not given my IELTS at that time and 12th predicted mark sheet due to the pending board exams of that term. Other than this, I did not applied to any other college and I received my offer letter really soon
  • I chose the University of the Fraser valley because I wanted to have a degree in Computer Science and while exploring options, I came across the study of Computer Information systems. It basically includes IT BUSINESS and Computer Science that was the main reason to apply for the college, as it will broaden my area and I will have various options to choose my career at the end of the degree. The admission process was simple. I had to submit my English scores like IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or DUOLINGO (any one) and my predicted 12 marks with my scholarship or any other achievements I have with a Character letter telling about me. The minimum marks required are 125 for Duolingo, 6 each in IELTS and 85 % in 12th. The overall experience was good as I applied and within a week I gave my Duolingo, on which I received 135 and after submitting the result, within 2 more week I got Offer Letter
  • I applied for Fall Intake as I got my board result during June so the next intake was fall intake only and I wanted to be enrolled as soon as possible, as Fall is the major intake. I started my process in Jan End by applying and got the offer Letter by Feb End after submitting the fee, within 1 months I got LOA and PAL and I started preparing for IELTS after my IElTS and Board results were with me, I applied for my permit on 20 July and got my visa on 30th July my passport came by 22nd August and my Flight was for 24th August

Faculty

10

  • Faculty is really good. A professor is not given many classes so they can focus on students better. Weekly assignments are given and tests are taken the professors are also in touch outside office hours through mail service and office hours are also provided.
  • Jobs are usually not a thing to be talked about with the teachers, though there is a department that helps in brushing up the interview skills and maybe they provide references as well.

Campus Life

10

  • College has 4 campuses in Abbotsford, Chillawack,Mission and Hope, with the main campus being Abbotsford. All facilities are available, like sports, a library, a gym, Tim Hortons Coffee, On campus RBC bank, and coffee. Major events are Canada day,Diwali, holi, Valentine day,Movie Nights , Game Nights ,Kickback and Night Parties Mostly all events are organized by the Student Union Society and a person is elected every year to run as president and other positions are selected through voting.

Part Time Jobs

  • Part-time jobs are available both on campus and off campus but they are a bit difficult to get, as on campus they have a different site only for jobs where we can apply but many students apply and you are selected based on your resume and qualities. off campus jobs are available but u have to find them through applying online or by dropping resumes. the best time to find the start of summer break and fall is when most job positions are available at that time. other than that, references work quite a lot, both on campus and off campus. Also some studies have a CO-OP more like an internship, which have their requirements and the department in campus helps in securing these
  • Most Indian students prefer working both on and off campus but on campus there is the benefit of a slightly higher pay rate and less work than off campus; both areas are considered good. Off campus, usually you don't know anyone but on campus, you know many students, as they will be friends from the same class or courses.

Placement

4

  • Full-time jobs depend on the field of study. There are career fairs on campus every year and departments prepare the students for that by helping with communication skills resume and CVs, and brushing up skills other than that GPA and knowledge of study are important, though universities don't promise to place students into full-time positions.
  • Working on campus Also helps to get a full-time job in your area on campus after completing study. There are many people who secure a full-time job by working on their skills.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I took accommodation off campus, as on campus is really expensive—around 1k per month just for rent. Off campus I found on Facebook marketplace for $500 a month a private room, which includes all amenities like wifi electricity water heat and a shared washroom and kitchen.
  • I would recommend finding off-campus housing, as on-campus housing is usually very high priced and as a student, it is not a good decision, as we can find better places outside campus.

Exams

  • Exams include 1 English test considering IELTS,PTE , Duolingo. Other than that, 12th board results are necessary. If the result is not yet out, we can get the expected 12th marks from school, and apply other documents like extracurriculars and a statement of Purpose are required after that you can get a conditional offer Letter and have to submit fees by the deadline and the 12th board result by the deadline. No interview was taken in the admission process.

Fees

  • So fees usually vary from course to course; taking me as an example, it will cost you around $22k-$25k per year and for housing around $600 per month and food $300-$400 depending on person and these are if you live off campus. On-campus living is around $4k per semester and fees are charged semesterly depending on how many credits you take.
  • For a full-time semester, you have to take 12 credits and each credit is around $725 and it increases every year. My Monthly expense is around $1200-$1300 which includes travel entertainment food rental and personal expenses.

Scholarship

  • There are very few scholarships in the university and they are mostly for domestic students, which are rarely given. There are some scholarships for international around $3k but they are  given rarely; they are  listed on website of University Neither me nor any my batchmates received this so don't know much about that and usually only a handful students get any scholarships.
